Magna Powertrain develops several e-powertrains for the automotive industry, making a significant contribution to the field of e-Machine winding technology. This talk will go through the current developments of winding technology and its benefits/drawbacks in terms of integration, performance, and manufacturability. Examples will be shared spanning from round wire machines in current serial production, to the latest generation presented at the end of 2023. In addition, it will explore the promising future horizons in this ever-advancing domain.
Giuseppe Volpe is leading the Advanced Engineering eMotor team. He has been with Magna Powertrain for the last couple of years, covering different roles from design engineer to serial projects eMotor design lead. He received his PhD on design and performance prediction of traction eMachine for Motorsport application, in 2018, from Cassino University jointly with Motor Design Ltd. His career has always been centered on eMachines development, publishing more than 20 papers and receiving several international awards. He was part of the Motor Design Ltd. team for several years developing eMachine for Automotive platforms. Earlier in his career, he took part in several European projects joining Shenyang University in China.
