Dr. Hanafy Mahmoud is the Lead Principal Engineer at the University of Nottingham Faculty of Engineering in Nottingham, England. With a wealth of experience spanning various roles and organizations, he brings extensive expertise in the domain of electric machine design and performance analysis. In his current role, Hanafy takes the lead in planning, developing, and conducting individual and collaborative development, manufacturing, testing, and validation projects. His work also includes leading the charge in revolutionizing the development of a new free rare-earth E-machine for diverse ground and aerospace applications. He specializes in developing Quiet Motors for various transportation applications, applying unique technologies to enhance NVH aspects. Hanafy is an IET premium Award Winner and published more than 35 journal and conference papers in the field of E-machines design.

The Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Research Group (PEMC) at the University of Nottingham developing electrical machines, drives and associated controls, construction, and testing of electrical machines for high performance applications. The PEMC Research Group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 160 members, with over 20 academics (including 7 full professors) and approximately 120 PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows. The group has excellent facilities for experimental work including approximately 3500m2 of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 5MW.
