The current test standard definition for PHEVs is based around 2 distinct vehicle operations: Charge Depletion, where the vehicle runs in electric vehicle only mode, from full HV battery charge to the first engine start, and charge sustain where the vehicle has to balance its State of Charge over the course of one certification cycle. This approach will lead to real world operation that are not always optimum in respect to energy savings. In this presentation, we are going to highlight how we could improve this situation with advanced knowledge of the drive cycle, using satellite navigation data, and how much savings this type of strategy could yield.
