This presentation explores the evolving landscape of magnet technologies for electric powertrains, from raw material sourcing to application in e-motors. Beginning with an overview of the value chain ā from mining and magnet production to motor integration ā it highlights the growing challenges of supply security, export restrictions, and the dependency on rare earth materials, particularly from China. Alternative sourcing strategies and the development of rare-earth-free magnets are examined as potential pathways forward. Key technical challenges such as demagnetization, durability, cooling requirements, and system integration will also be addressed, alongside the broader implications of policy changes and market dynamics for the future of e-mobility.
